FORM AND EMPTINESS

Fountain Street Core Members Exhibition

Curated by Miller Opie

Assistant curator: Nilou Moochhala

Dec 1, 2022-Jan 15, 2023

SoWa First Friday Art Walk: Dec 2 + Jan 6, 5 |5-8PM

Beginning December 1, Fountain Street Gallery will explore “Form and Emptiness,” an exploration of contrasts and juxtapositions featuring the work of Fountain Street Core Members. Artists start with emptiness and an idea then build on this to create form. Differences are created; differences in color, value, size, and texture which ultimately relate through their interdependence. These opposites can become complementary, creating a compelling piece of art. Without emptiness, there would be no form. Artists working in 2D, 3D and time-based media celebrate the duality of this push and pull to express their artistic vision.

Curator Miller Opie is a sculptor who uses found organic material to construct lyric dimensional shapes. She recently discovered that the shadows her works cast are as interesting and important as the physical objects themselves- thus creating form out of emptiness. Opie graduated with a BFA in Jewelry and Light Metals from the Rhode Island School of Design. She is a member of the Sculptor’s Guild in New York City, the Silvermine Guild of Artists in New Canaan, CT, and exhibits nationally. Before becoming a full-time artist, Opie was a design director in the Home Fashions Industry. Her studio is in the forest of Shutesbury, MA. She is a Core Member of Fountain Street.
