“ZONE OUT” by Bailey Keogh

Tell us about the artwork. What makes it unique?

“The concept of the piece is meant to evoke a feeling of nostalgia or a far away place you are never totally getting to, like a road trip going nowhere filled with fragmented moments along an endless loop.”

Tell us about yourself. How did you come to be an artist in video/digital media?

“I am a painter and digital artist living in Berlin, Germany. In a way my painting practice and digital practice have evolved in conjunction with one influencing the other. As someone born in the early 90’s I am among the only generation who can claim pre AND post internet life. My work is very much inspired by both.”

“Dream Ouija” by David Cohn

Tell us about the artwork. What makes it unique?

Dream Ouija is a moving checkerboard of dream vignettes (white background) and conscious symbolic associations (black background). The figure in the video is me and the dreams and associations are my own, but also not, in the sense that my recorded body is visible as third person in these dream sequences. My work explores a relationship with self that is both close and distant. With this piece, I was interested in a repetition that binds together the different vignettes: a sameness produced through difference.”

Tell us about yourself. How did you come to be an artist in video/digital media?

“Creating digital media has an instant gratification factor for me, I think in the way that there is no one-to-one relationship between appearance (what appears on the screen) and intention (the action of making) – there is no “mark.” Software is central to my process and difference is built into it from the start: there is an interface. I think this is why I began to make digital videos at a time when I was also becoming reacquainted with myself and feeling more okay about being a person. Video was for me a more playful and safe mirror.”
