Fountain Street Gallery moves to Boston’s SoWa Arts District

BOSTON, MA – On April 6, 2017, public access was unexpectedly prohibited to the Fountain Street gallery’s location in an industrial building in downtown Framingham, MA. ‘Conceal and Reveal’, the work of Denise Driscoll and Kay Hartung, was closed to the public only two hours after the exhibit opened. It was not clear when visitors would be allowed to re-enter, if at all.
Out of crisis came opportunity! Within days, co-founders Cherie Clinton and Marie Craig, along with assistant director Tatiana Flis, announced that Fountain Street was making a move to 460 Harrison Ave. in Boston’s SoWa neighborhood. Less than a month after the shutdown, Fountain Street re-opened at its new location with ‘Scarcely Awake’, the work of Sarah Alexander and Tatiana Flis, with a sound installation by Todd Bowser.
What the gallery owners and artists found in SoWa was a welcoming community of galleries, collectors, and artists. Craig commented, "We're really excited! Moving to SoWa was something we’d considered hypothetically for a while, and the situation with our building gave us the push we needed to take the leap. We are thrilled to have this opportunity to give our artists exposure in Boston’s gallery row."
Fountain Street Fine Art opened in Framingham, MA in 2011 as a membership-based gallery, born out of a desire to provide a venue for an ever-expanding community of artists and art-lovers in Boston’s Metrowest suburbs. Over the years, the gallery gained a following and reputation as one of a few strong contemporary galleries outside of greater Boston. The transition to the new space happened smoothly, according to Craig, “because of the hard work, camaraderie, and shared vision of our incredible Core artists.” The gallery is expanding, and expects to add several new artists this fall.
Quickly settled into its new home, Fountain Street has a full slate of exhibitions and events planned for the summer and beyond. ‘Conceal and Reveal’, the Framingham exhibition that nobody saw, is now on exhibit in Boston, through July 30. The artists will be hosting an artist talk on Sunday, July 30 at 3:00 pm.
In August, Yellow Too!, a group show of Core artists, curated by Sorin Bica, will be on exhibit August 2–27. Bica will be speaking about his curatorial process on Saturday, August 12 at 1:00 pm.
Making A Painting: The Blue Tarp Project will be happening August 30–September 3, over the Labor Day holiday weekend. This pop-up installation and participatory art event is the work of Joseph Fontinha, who plans to re-create his studio in the gallery, and invite visitors to observe and take part in the creation of photo and video paintings.
Craig, Clinton, Flis, and the artists of Fountain Street look forward to the journey as they grow, evolve, and make waves in the Boston arts scene.
The Gallery is now located at 460c Harrison Ave. #2, Boston, MA and is open Wednesday through Sunday from 11am to 5pm, and by appointment.
