SAND: Always Keep Going

S A N D

FOUNTAIN STREET GALLERY APRIL 26 & 27 | 7 PM

We’re pleased to be presenting SAND, an evening length dance installation that combines the elements of dance, spoken word and visual arts. The performance celebrates differences by highlighting each dancer's unique individualities. This concept is reflected in the title as SAND is made up of a multitude of grains existing together while upholding the integrity of the individual. SAND is the brainchild of VLA Dance founder/choreographer/dancer Victoria Lynn Awkward.

ABOUT VLA DANCE DIRECTOR Victoria Lynn Awkward:

Since graduating from Goucher College with a major in Performance and Visual Arts Education I’ve been working with this piece, SAND. It started as a short trio and has bloomed into a starting ground for my dance company. This work has been with me through the beginnings of my career as a professional dancer.

Through feeling like I can’t perform to going in debt from setting my first show, creating has been a challenge but it has also been a way to fortify my ability to keep going. I’ve found the best way to continue is to simply keep trying. In trying I am finding clarity. I am thankful for SAND for being there through the ups and downs of my beginnings.
