Climate change is a reality, and it affects millions of people all over the world. One of the consequences of climate change is the rising of seawater due to a combination of meltwater from glaciers and ice sheets and the thermal expansion of seawater as it warms. As the ocean and the atmosphere continue to warm, water levels will continue to rise. How much depends mostly on the amount of heat-trapping greenhouse gases, including carbon dioxide, emitted into the atmosphere and the subsequent warming. How fast depends mostly on the rate of glaciers and ice sheets melting. Iceberg consists of the fixed shot sequence of the word future written in ice, little by little the word is melting, as a metaphor for what is happening in all the glaciers around the world. The title, Iceberg, also refers to the magnitude of the problem, because with climate change, we are only seeing a small portion of the total magnitude of the problem, as is the case with icebergs.

Another consequence of climate change is the rising of seawater due to a combination of meltwater from glaciers and ice sheets and the thermal expansion of seawater as it warms. The video consists in a series of video-collages in which the sea has invaded different places around the world, creating a succession of beaches in the middle of the city. Each collage is a metaphor for what could happen if we keep warming our planet by using fossil fuels.

“IRISH SKY August 4 2022” by Noel Molloy

Tell us about the artwork. What makes it unique?

“A slice of Irish sky a minute moment and minute part of the vast cosmos- meaning universe. Cosmos often simply means "universe". But the word is generally used to suggest an orderly or harmonious universe, as it was originally used by Pythagoras in the 6th century B.C. Thus, a religious mystic may help put us in touch with the cosmos, and so may a physicist.”

Tell us about yourself. How did you come to be an artist in video/digital media?

“I am a visual and performance artist and use video and sound in my performance so I developed my video work to compliment and expand my performance work.”
