Dalvin Byron

Dalvin Byron’s paintings are based on the interpretation of his dreams. They are part of an ongoing series that attempts to find traces of identity and memory in the imagery that originated from the unconscious mind.

Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung hypothesized that dreams reveal the very nature of who we truly are - Freud proposing that dreams represent desires and Jung proposing that dreams contain invaluable information about the self. As he creates these paintings, Byron seeks to find connections between each piece in this series - the viewer is invited to infuse each piece with their own meaning.

Byron earned his BFA from Messiah University in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. His formative years as an artist were spent looking at the great Dutch Golden Age painters like Pieter Claesz, Rachel Ruysch, and Frans Hals. Observing the work of these artists sparked the desire to pursue oil painting and realism. When he’s not painting Byron is busy teaching and sharing what he knows and loves about art with the next generation of artists. He worked with students in Baltimore to develop painting and drawing skills. During his time teaching in Baltimore, he also completed two murals with the assistance of his students. He now lives in Newton, Massachusetts, where he teaches middle school and high school studio art at Newton Country Day School.
