Leslie Zelamsky's "Point of Departure 7" is a 30.5 x 31.5 x 15 inch sculpture that was inspired by circa 1942 abandoned ammunition storage bunkers in the Assabet River National Wildlife Refuge. The piece is constructed with cedar shingles and pine boards that are nailed and glued. While architectural references exist in the form, the piece has a warm and soft quality found in the texture, patterns and spaces that result from Zelamsky's building process. This piece is signed on the bottom and is free-standing.

“Point of Departure 7” is the seventh piece in Zelamsky's “Point of Departure” series where the artist explores how she arrives at a finished piece. Deeply rooted in intuition and spontaneity, each layer is the result of the moment that came before. The “Point of Departure” series also reflects major departures in the artist's personal life that have influenced her arrival in the present.
