Marcia Wise’s paintings of abstracted landscapes, as well as her other bodies of work, evoke the powerful emotional reactions that aspects of nature stir within her. She describes her work as honest peeks into her inner relationship with the world. Her process is a passionate trial of color placement, color relationships, light effects, introspection, form and pattern manipulation, and textural play.
Wise received formal training from L’Ecole Nationale Superieure Des Beaux-Arts, France, Art Institute of Boston, MA, and Boston University, MA. She has lived and worked across the US, in Europe and the Middle East. In addition to teaching private students and small groups, she continues to facilitate The Bold Palette – Painting Workshops in the US and abroad, taking groups of painters to Italy each year. In her early career, Wise concentrated on murals and trompe l’oeil paintings. Wise has shown extensively in California, Delaware, New Mexico, and Massachusetts. The Norfolk Cultural Council, MA, sponsored her most recent local solo show. She lives and works from her studio in Norfolk, MA, and in Boston, MA.
