About the Work
Borkowski-Byrne works primarily in oil, building richly textured surfaces through layered, spontaneous brushwork and experimental techniques. Her process is intuitive and immersive, often allowing the painting to evolve beyond its initial concept as gesture, color, and rhythm take precedence.
Her compositions are driven by movement and visual rhythm, often inspired by music and the idea of painting as a purely visual language. Thick and thin applications of paint, drips, and sweeping marks create surfaces that shift between energy and cohesion, revealing new relationships over time.
Each work is a one-of-a-kind painting, developed through a process that embraces chance, physicality, and the expressive potential of abstraction.
