“About Face” Exhibition Catalog
$25.00
Fountain Street Gallery presents “About Face” an international group show which focuses on artistic, personal, and cultural identity, as well as the politics of authority, representation, inclusion and exclusion. Jurors, Michelle May and Payal Thiffault, founders of the independent visual art and lifestyle magazine Juniper Rag, characterize the power of the show by saying, “the multiplicity found in this exhibition is the face of the world that confronts us every day, emotional and vulnerable, telling a universal story of an experience that unites us.”

Fountain Street Gallery Core Artists explore “Form and Emptiness,” an exploration of contrasts and juxtapositions featuring the work of Fountain Street Core Members. Artists start with emptiness and an idea then build on this to create form. Differences are created; differences in color, value, size, and texture which ultimately relate through their interdependence. These opposites can become complementary, creating a compelling piece of art. Without emptiness, there would be no form. Artists working in 2D, 3D and time-based media celebrate the duality of this push and pull to express their artistic vision.

ABOUT THE BOOK
LUST AFTER explores the tension between an artist’s desire to be true to an inner vision vs. the need for attention and recognition.
Thirty-five NAWA artists pursue their passions through painting, printmaking, drawing, sculpting, and photography, echoing the words of the 104-year-old Cuban-American painter Carmen Herrera, “You don’t decide to be an artist, art gets inside of you. It’s like falling in love.” How does this tension resolve itself in the creative process, and how does it manifest itself in the finished work?

ABOUT THE BOOK
OUT OF PLACE reveals and repositions what it means to belong. Twenty-nine artists offer an expansive interpretation of the theme— spanning several mediums, scales, and forms, the work featured in “Out of Place” could easily be construed as disparate or fragmented. Yet, presented together, these artists contend with structure, familiarity, and acceptance while pushing the boundaries of what it means to belong.

ABOUT THE BOOK
As women artists, we stand on the shoulders of our predecessors. The National Association of Women Artists, Inc., Massachusetts Chapter, in partnership with Fountain Street Fine Art, announces “Continuum: Tradition meets Innovation”. This is an invitational group exhibition of 2D and 3D works inspired by the experiences and aspirations of the artists. Artwork can capture time, place, and feeling, and this exhibit strives to reflect that. We as female artists are as in tune with the activity of those who push the envelope to the maximum of what is defined as art. On some level, art is everything.
