Colors of Summer Memories addresses the emotions that I can recall as I think back on the season throughout my life. I often associate this season with warm colors and feelings. This summer has been unlike any other that I have lived through. I have been spending most of my time inside, specifically in the kitchen drinking coffee or on the couch reading my book. Usually I would be spending more time with family and friends but the pandemic has made this routine difficult.

As the days grow long and then become shorter, the warm hue of the afternoon sun remains a constant as the days of the season fly by

Colors of Summer Memories

Colors of Summer Memories encourages the viewer to recall the emotions and feelings of summer. The season is often associated with warm colors as the temperatures rise and the sun shines differently than any other time of year. Summer of 2020 has led to a halt in normality as the pandemic stopped many seasonal activities that would have been taking place. COVID-19 has society spending their summers in new ways with many people spending more time at home, in their personal spaces. For some, being confined to their home led to renovations as well as new discoveries within the interior spaces in which they inhabit. The warm summer colors, along with the unique familiarity of our homes at this time have created summer memories that will remain at arms length as the winter months draw near.

The Curator

Marygrace Gladden is a senior at Savannah College of Art and Design pursuing her degree in Fine Art Photography. Her work concentrates on the precise synthesis of the elements of photography, light, time and space and the way they affect human emotions. Studies of elements such as sunlight, however brief, convey a sense of spontaneity and promote a feeling of isolation that is present throughout her work. The continuous analysis of the familiar assigns emotional attachment to the imagery, however simple it may be. Marygrace primarily utilizes 4x5 large format film to capture her work due to the slow, contemplative nature of the medium and the way it is reflected in her content.
