Annex Fellowships for Massachusetts Residents

Annex Fellowships are designed to provide opportunities to emerging artists from all backgrounds who are residents of Massachusetts. Academic and/or professional achievements or affiliations are not considered when choosing a fellow. Artists with non-conventional arts backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Artists will be chosen based on the quality and potential of their work in regards to their unique approach to making. In its third year, the Annex Fellowship will grant three artists a month-long exhibition in November 2023.

The Fountain Street Annex promotes emerging artists who are looking for exhibition opportunities in a professional gallery setting. This gallery space supports 2D, 3D, time-based and performance media. The Fellowship covers the artist’s Annex fees and includes one-on-one mentoring, press announcements, and social media promotion. Fellowship applicants must be 18 or older, have been a practicing artist for ten years or less, and be residents of Massachusetts.

Juror Jamaal Eversley will review submissions and select up to three artists as the 2022 Annex Fellows.

 Jamaal Eversley hails from Randolph, MA. With a business degree in hand, from Babson College, he has decided to chase after his dreams and passionately pursue his talents as an eccentric abstract artist and intertwine business with the arts in order to serve the community. His art has been exhibited throughout the South Shore and Boston area and he has received a numerous public art grants to bring his colorful patterns to the community. Jamaal constantly creates to spur the juices of creative genius and put the “F” meant for “Fun” back into Fine Arts. As a Fountain Street Annex Artist himself in 2020, Jamaal brings a unique perspective to the selection process. You can see more of his work at @SirJayEvs on instagram.

 

Eligibility

All artists regardless of age, race, ethnicity, national origin, gender identification, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, or disability are encouraged to apply.

  • Artist may work in a single medium or embrace multiple mediums. Experimental and nontraditional approaches to artistic practice are welcome.

  • Fountain Street Gallery encourages work exploring social, cultural, historical, and/or political concepts.

  • Artist must be 18 years or older.

  • Artist must have been a practicing artist for ten years or less.

  • Artist must be a current resident of Massachusetts.


Application Process

Applications for the Annex Fellowship will be accepted through November 27, 2022. Applicants will be notified of the results of the selection process on or before December 15, 2022. Exhibition will take place during the month of November 2023. Annex Fellows are capped at three artists.

  • Applications are accepted online ONLY.

  • There is no fee to apply; the application is competitive, and artists are not guaranteed acceptance.

  • Applicants will be asked to submit images of five (5) artworks. JPGS should be 300 dpi and 6 inches on the shortest side.

  • Applicants will be asked for a brief (150-word max) description of the artwork, and a brief (150-word max) biographical statement.

Fellowship Benefits

Fellowship covers the artist’s Annex membership fees and includes one-on-one mentoring, press announcements and social media promotion. Additional benefits are listed below.

  • No membership fee ($500 value)

  • One-on-one professional development mentoring

  • Guidance in exhibition development and promotion

  • Sales commission of 60/40 (Artist/Gallery)

  • One 3-person exhibition in the Annex Gallery

    • Reception is coordinated by the Gallery

    • Gallery creates and distributes a Press Release

    • Gallery designs a digital exhibition postcard

      • The Gallery does not print postcards

      • The Gallery does not mail postcards

  • Gallery website representation (includes 1 artwork image with link to Annex show page)

  • Annex Fellows are encouraged to participate in the Fountain Street’s monthly Artist News feature highlighting artistic practice outside of Fountain Street activities

  • Access to create content for Fountain Street’s blog, “Growing a Gallery

  • Access to participate in Fountain Street’s marketing and social media campaigns
