Anita Zotkina
Dreamlike Encounters
Anita Zotkina is a contemporary painter whose surreal oil paintings explore innocence, memory, nature, and the quiet wonder of the imagination. Working primarily in oil on canvas, she creates luminous scenes populated by animals, women, and natural forms, combining soft lines, floating forms, and unexpected encounters to create intimate dreamlike worlds.
Color is central to Zotkina’s visual language. Layered blends and luminous contrasts give her paintings a sense of depth and atmosphere, while familiar figures and animals become vessels for stories about childhood, memory, connection, and the journey through life. Her distinctive approach, which she calls “Softique,” balances tenderness and surrealism to create moments of calm and contemplation.

About the Work
Zotkina creates paintings that feel like fragments of a larger story, placing animals and human figures within environments that exist somewhere between memory and imagination. A rabbit resting in a glowing garden, a white deer moving through a night landscape, or a newly hatched emu perched on an egg becomes a starting point for reflections on safety, discovery, resilience, and new beginnings.
Her animals often carry a symbolic or emotional presence, allowing familiar creatures to take on the role of companions, guides, protectors, or quiet observers. Rather than presenting nature as a literal landscape, Zotkina creates environments where plants, animals, sky, and light interact in an imaginative visual language.
Softly defined forms and luminous color give the paintings their distinctive atmosphere. Her use of blended passages, glowing contrasts, and simplified shapes creates a sense of suspended time, encouraging viewers to slow down and enter the gentle, contemplative worlds she constructs.
